TRADING STYLE – The Global Street*
What do fashion and style tell us about society? How do people from different generations and cultures communicate through clothing? How do fashions travel? How is individual style traded?
TRADING STYLE – The Global Street* opens at the Weltkulturen Museum on 7th November 2012. It sets up an exceptional dialogue between four international, cutting-edge fashion labels and the historic ethnographic collections of the Weltkulturen Museum in Frankfurt. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to explore the rich connections between past and future worlds of global style and fashion.The exhibition presents over 500 objects from Oceania, Africa, South-East Asia and America. Each artefact conveys exquisite craftsmanship and innovative design. From embroidered moccasins and sandals through to elaborately decorated bags, woven belts, rainbow-coloured feather headdresses and eccentric hats, the extensive collection of fashion items from the Weltkulturen Museum offers an outstanding variety of unique designs, patterns, colour codes and techniques from around the world.
New creations specially produced for TRADING STYLE by four international guest designers, A Kind of Guise (Germany), Buki Akib (Nigeria), CassettePlaya (United Kingdom) and P.A.M./Perks and Mini (Australia), are presented in dialogue with objects, photographs and films from the museum. The designers’ exhibits include digital prints, videos and sound works alongside original textiles and garments developed as a part of their new “collection of a collection”.

Produktion, Präsentation und Austausch verschiedener Disziplinen.
Over two weekends in Frankfurt all artists studios in the city are open for visitors, to view new works, network and maybe start a collection!

Frankfurts Kunstszene von ihren unbekannten Seiten kennenlernen, dazu
laden die Frankfurter Ateliertage ein. Über 300 professionell
arbeitende Künstlerinnen und Künstler bieten von nun an alle zwei Jahre
an zwei Wochenenden im November Einblicke in ihre Ateliers.
Kunstinteressierte haben dann die Gelegenheit, mit Kunstschaffenden ins Gespräch zu kommen, um sich aus erster Hand über die Entwicklung aktueller Kunst und ihre Produktionsbedingungen zu informieren.
Die „Frankfurter Ateliertage“ zeigen, was in Sachen Kunst wirklich in dieser Stadt los ist. Die Künstler geben hier den Ton an und entscheiden selbst was es zu sehen gibt. Fotografie, Malerei, Performance, Installation, Grafik, Bildhauerei oder Videokunst, Abstraktion, Konzeptkunst oder Realismus - es gibt keine Technik, keine Stilrichtung, die nicht vertreten ist. Und so unterschiedlich und individuell wie die Arbeiten der einzelnen Künstler sind auch ihre Produktionsstätten. In versteckten Hinterhäusern, ehemaligen Autogaragen, Fabrikhallen, in der nüchternen Atmosphäre leerstehender Büroetagen, im Gewächshaus oder auf dem „Dach“ eines ehemaligen Bunkers entsteht Kunst.
Von Fechenheim bis Bockenheim und Sachsenhausen, zwischen Gallus, Osthafen und Westhafen - Frankfurter Künstler arbeiten in Ateliers über das gesamte Stadtgebiet verteilt. Kompetente Besucherführungen begleiten durch die Künstlerhäuser und helfen bei der Orientierung. Das Vermittlungsangebot wird ergänzt durch Künstlergespräche, Performances, Kinderstudios und anderen von Künstlern organisierten Events. Der Eintritt ist überall frei!
Die Frankfurter Ateliertage wollen aber nicht nur Brücken zwischen Künstlern und Publikum schlagen, sondern bieten auch Gelegenheit, um auf die spezifischen Bedürfnisse und Interessen der Kunstschaffenden dieser Stadt öffentlich aufmerksam zu machen. Schließlich sind sie es, die mit ihrer Arbeit für ein hohes Niveau bildender Kunst in dieser Stadt bürgen und das in großer Vielfalt, durch alle Gattungen und über alle Generationen hinweg.
Das Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt vergibt im Rahmen der Frankfurter Ateliertage ab 2012 erstmals das Arbeitsstipendium „Heimvorteil“ an Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen der Frankfurter Ateliertage. Der Name des Stipendiaten wird an der offiziellen Eröffnung am 17.11.2012 bekannt gegeben.
Wir wünschen Ihnen überraschende Einblicke und anregende Auseinandersetzungen mit den Künstlern und deren Werken und viel Vergnügen auf Ihrer persönlichen Entdeckungstour durch die Frankfurter Atelierlandschaft.

Dungeness, England
Dungeness is a headland on the coast of Kent, England, formed largely of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland.
It shelters a large area of low-lying land, Romney Marsh.
Dungeness is also the name of the power station and a few other nearby buildings near the beach, and of an important ecological site at the same location.
Dungeness is strangely beautiful,
very dramatic weather and always the first place we visit when we are in England.

The display brings together over 80 artworks ranging from sculptures, hand-embroidered banners and garments, showcasing the variety and creativity of Arthur Bispo do Rosario (1909-1989), one of Brazil’s most recognised artists.
Admitted to a psychiatric hospital at the age of 29, Bispo’s creations were made in complete isolation from the art establishment. However his ‘outsider’ art has long been celebrated for its skill and imaginative approach to working with everyday, found materials. The work on show demonstrates his fascination for the reappropriation of objects such as buttons, bottles, paper, card and cutlery, which he manipulated to create elaborate sculptural pieces.

The Punk Syndrome follows four professional musicians and their journey from obscurity to popularity. In the film they fight, fall in love and experience strong emotions. They spend long days in the recording studio and on tour. They laugh, cry, drink and fight over who gets to sit in front on the tour bus. Then they make up and go talk to people in the audience and tell them how great their band is.
Their songs are about problems in society as well as the things they face in everyday life: how going to the pedicurist sucks and the misery of living in a group home. The guys give a piece of their mind to both politicians and people whose attitudes towards people with intellectual disabilities need improvement.
The Punk Syndrome is a film about the essence of punk. It’s a story of handicapped people rebelling against the mainstream.

Dorothee Yager De-Rannos
A rare photograph of Dorothee with her one and only love and soul - mate Enadi Yageriko.
Enadi Yageriko was a fellow sculptor who she met whilst contemplating the rising sun on the summit of Gebel Katharina, above Saint Catherines monastry in the Sinai.
Enadi died soon after this picture was taken during a stormy night amongst the treacherous peaks of Mons Porphyrites where he was illegally quarrying the much sort after purple Porphery stone with which he intended to immortalise his love for Dorothee.
In memory of Enadi, Dorothee adopted part of Enadi's name as her middle name - hence Dorothee YAGER De-Rannos.
